Lesson Plan: Bahia Vista visit 4/9/2014
Learning Objective: The learning objective of this lesson was to allow the students to understand the difference between positive and negative space. By having them draw half of their name with white letters and black background and reveres a white background with black letters allowed the students to observe how positive and negative space take place.
New Skills Students Learned: I think the students learned many new skills such as, they were able to develop craft by observing the different parts of the negative and positive space.
Favorite Moment: My favorite moment of this lesson was watching the students using their creatvity to make their name different than other students and adding their own personal style to their letters.

Lesson Plan: Bahia Vista visit 3/26/2014
Learning Objectives: The objective of the lesson was for the students to observe still life and be able to observe light and dark shadows. Also, the students used charcoal pencils to shade the correct light and dark values presented by the still life vase.
New Skills Learned by Students: The students were able to learn the concept of still life. Also, they were able to use new tools like the pencil to create an image that showed both light and dark values. The students learned to observe what they were seeing in front of them and transfer it onto paper. I saw evidence of this when the students were asking questions about what they were using and how they were to make the art piece look like it was taught to look.
Changes: If I were to implement this lesson again I would test the pencils before I started the lesson so that students would only have to worry about the lesson and not the pencils not working.

Lesson Plan: Bahia Vista visit 2/26/14
Learning Objectives: The learning objectives of the lesson was for the students to understand how to observe a three dimensional object and be able to construct the same object on paper. Also, once the object that they observed was on their paper they were to use their imagination to create something out of the three dimensional box like the image to the left.
Instruction and Student Activities: The instructions that were given was first for them to pick the block that they wanted to observe and once they did that they created one line that would be their starting off point. Once those steps are complete they would observe the angle of the next two lines and trace those, then they would complete the rest of the box by making parallel lines. The students activities would include using a ruler to construct the lines of the box and using their imagination to create something from the three dimensional box they made.
Learning Outcomes (both what you observed and what the student acknowledged): Once the students got started they were excited at what they were doing which engaged them in learning the concept of observing and creating a three dimensional object on their paper. The student acknowledged that it was challenging but they understood the concepts that were taught.
Overall observations (what worked well, what would you change next time): The aspects of the lesson that worked well was the fact that the lesson was challenging but fun at the same time. Because they are fourth grade students they work better and don't get bored when they are challenged. I feel that the lesson worked very well for the students.
One “habit of mind” the lesson fostered (and what makes you say that): I feel that the main "habit of mind" that the lesson fostered is observe because the students used observation to create their desired three dimensional figures.
